“The Festival to Fight for Florida is not a rally, but a day-long celebration of what it means to be an average Floridian. This day of activism, education and music will serve as a kick-off for a larger, sustained campaign to organize people from all backgrounds and walks of life to take action in meaningful, effective ways that make a difference in the lives of all Floridians.

At the festival, attendees will learn about how they can Fight for Florida by participating in letter writing campaigns, recording video messages, registering to vote and attending a series of teach-ins. With a carnival atmosphere serving as a backdrop, workers and their families will get the tools they need to build activist networks in their neighborhoods throughout the summer and leading into regional activities in the fall. These activities will support a statewide effort to recruit and train workers and retirees to run for elected office. After all, average Floridians know what it is like to Fight for Florida!”

Come out to Orlando’s Central Florida Fairgrounds between 10AM and 6PM tomorrow, Saturday June 4th, and connect with some of your fellow Florida Young Democrats and a great variety of Florida’s elected officials, educators, laborers, citizen activists and artists.

Continue reading »]]> The highlight of the year for Florida’s Young Democrats is our Annual Convention.  It is a weekend full of programs, trainings, our Awards Breakfast, and a chance to get to know other Democrats from across Florida.  This year’s convention will take place June 10-12 in Hollywood, FL.  Registration is now open, so sign up today!

On Saturday we will be providing a full day of panels and trainings focusing on everything from issues that are important to Florida ranging from Redistricting to Veterans as well as ways to improve your political skills and chapter.  Below are a few of the great workshops we will be providing.  Trainings are open to all registered attendees.  All Saturday trainings will take place at the Westin Diplomat. As more details are announced, they will be posted on the Convention Information Page, so check back often to see what has been added!

As a part of your registration, you will receive a ticket to our Awards Breakfast.  This Sunday morning breakfast and awards ceremony will highlight outstanding young democrats and programs from the past year. We will hear from YDA Executive Director and Democratic activist Christine Pelosi, have presentations from the awards committee, and it will be a great chance to meet Young and Young at Heart Democrats from across the state.

Continue reading »]]> Fort Lauderdale – Leaders of the Florida Young Democrats, representing hundreds of thousands of Democratic voters under 40 in Florida, on Wednesday congratulated U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Weston) on her selection as the new Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

“Since 2004, Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz has fought for job growth, strengthening our middle class, sustainable energy production and is holding Republicans accountable for their radical job-killing agenda that would privatize Medicare and Social Security,” said FYD Southeast Regional Director Franco Ripple. “We are proud she’s from Broward County, proud she’s from Florida and proud she’s fighting for a better America.”

“Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been a tireless fighter for Florida’s and America’s middle-class families and working people, and we know she will make South Florida proud as she leads Democrats into successful 2012 elections,” said FYD President Hon. Alexander Lewy.

The Florida Young Democrats (FYD) is a youth-led political organization dedicated to educating and turning out young voters in Florida.  FYD mobilizes young people under 40 to participate in the electoral process, influence the ideals of the Democratic Party and develop the skills of the youth generation to serve as leaders at the local, state and national levels.
