Florida Young Democrats

Delivering the Margin of Victory Today & the Democratic Majority of Tomorrow!

Welcome to the FYD Water Cooler! So we don’t really have a water cooler in the office – but we do have a water fountain. And people come and go quite frequently around here. So how are we supposed to slack off on the job and talk about our mundane lives? We’ll do what everyone’s doing and use the series of tubes Former Alaska Snator Ted Stephens affectionately calls the internet so that you can chat along with us. Problem solved!

The topics won’t always be political in nature, just things going on in the every day lives of average people that work here at Florida Young Dems – things we know also affect your lives and experience as Young Democrats. So, feel free to respond or post your own opinions, we want to get to know you better, too. However, like everything else in life there are rules.

1. Be respectful of everyone’s opinion, even if it is wrong

2. Do not use derogatory, offensive, explicit or libelous language, even if someone is REALLY wrong

Now is the time for us to come together to get YDA working again. While in the past it was common for the Executive Committee to set the agenda for an administration, this time all of YDA’s leadership, from the National Committee to Caucus and Committee leaders, will be planning out the future of our organization at our Fall Conference in sunny Orlando, Florida on November 20-22, 2009.

The clock is ticking on the 2010 Election season and this is our opportunity to plan our strategy for the next 11 months to continue engaging young voters and exercise our generation’s power by sending Democrats back to Congress and our state, commonwealth, and territorial capitals.

Check out the 2009 Fall Conference Schedule

Dear Florida Young Democrats,(2)

After giving the upcoming election a great deal of thought and considerable reflection, I have decided that I will not be running for re-election as president of the Florida Young Democrats at this year’s state convention. We have reached many milestones with our organization, but I feel that it is time to pass the torch to [...]

Heard at the Water Cooler: Gossip and Violence…(0)

It is never justifiable to be violent towards another person except in an effort of self defense. It is never OK for a man to hit a woman. Some of you sassy sarcastic people might throw out the line “equal rights, equal fights.” No. Simply put, no, do not now, nor ever [...]

Heard at the Water Cooler: Eyes closed(0)

I have been blessed with a lesbian roommate. It might sound silly, but I really mean it. My roommate, who, for the purposes of this blog will be called Sarah, has opened my eyes to an entirely different world. I can proudly say that many nights I am the token straight girl, [...]

Heard at the Water Cooler: One Nation, Under God(0)

This is part one of a two part series (which could really be a couple hundred part series) on religion and politics. There is an old saying that says mixing Religion and Politics is like mixing ice cream and cow manure. It doesn’t really do much to the cow manure, but it sure does change [...]

Heard at the Water Cooler: Our Next 200 Years(0)

There is no greater story of perseverance in the history of the United States than the story of the poor Kentucky farmer who became the 16th president. I’m sure many of you know by now that Thursday was the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. I thought it best to reflect on where [...]

Heard at the water cooler: A Valentines Day Massacre… or not…(0)

No depressing video this week to remind the college students of their impending doom upon graduating. You’re welcome. But what, oh what, should I write about this week?

Valentines Day sucks, if you’re single. Which I am, so I’ve go that to look forward to this weekend. So what am I doing [...]

Students Today(0)

Another depressing video about how unprepared we are as college students for the ‘real world’ you ask me? Emphatically I answer yes!
A Vision of Students Today
Well, kind of. This video focuses more on technology and how addicted we are to it. Right now, I have Youtube up, blackboard loaded, listening to Itunes, and typing this [...]
